Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering and Maintenance will be responsible to lead the engineering and maintenance functional areas across the Company’s multi-site production and fulfillment operations in Iowa, Ohio and Nevada. This role is accountable for working closely with the operations teams to achieve financial, quality, safety, and growth objectives from the Company’s capital expenditures, equipment, and facilities.

Key Activities:

  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of capital projects (equipment, technologies, automation, facility enhancements/expansions) to enhance operational efficiencies, improve performance, and meet growth plans
  • Manage, support, and develop engineering and maintenance teams through ongoing hiring, coaching, training, and performance management; manage project assignments, workload, and priorities among engineering team members. Will have direct line responsibility over engineering and dotted line responsibility over maintenance
  • Establish, promote and maintain a Project Management Office (PMO); PMO will establish project objectives, requirements, tasks, schedule, resources, milestones and communications necessary to ensure projects are delivered within the defined scope, time and cost commitments
  • Manage ongoing project communications to ensure key stakeholders are informed and can provide relevant input
  • Lead the development and implementation of preventive / predictive maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability
  • Oversee preparation, planning, scheduling, coordination, execution, updating and reporting of equipment reliability activities
  • Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPI’s) to monitor and improve maintenance performance
  • Ensure teams procure necessary spare parts, equipment, and services
  • Provide clear direction and vision, build effective teams, ensure safe working environments, and focus on customer and company needs
  • Drive a culture of safety; identify safety hazards on equipment and processes and implement solutions

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in engineering, business or related field
  • At least ten (10) years of maintenance and engineering work experience, with progressing levels of responsibility
  • Leadership role in a fast-paced food related environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-site teams and participate in cross-functional teams
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with strong team orientation
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Willingness to travel (primarily to Ohio facilities) and work flexible hours
  • Experience implementing and managing a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Project
  • Lean and Six Sigma experience is a plus
  • Working knowledge of PLC and plant automation systems preferred
