Job Description

Position Summary:

The Plant Manager will direct plant operations including production, maintenance, scheduling, warehousing, facilities and freight, by performing the following duties personally or with staff.

Key Activities:

  • Ensures goals of exceeding safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, labor and waste measures are being met.
  • Operates in accordance with policies, principles, and established procedures.
  • Develops and implements plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and team.
  • Reviews production and material costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of the plant.
  • Reviews financial performance of the plant to recommend to management opportunities for growth and cost improvements.
  • Directs preparation of production, human resources and labor/costs records.
  • Develops budgets.
  • Monitors and reports results against established key performance indicators including clear weekly reporting metrics.
  • Leads union relationship and contract negotiations.
  • Coordinates training activities in cooperation with the Human Resources Department and Lean Director.
  • Assist in recruiting and hiring manufacturing team in cooperation with the Human Resources Department
  • Meets the current and future expectations and requirements of customers and resolving customer issues that arise.
  • Maintains positive working relationship with customers, sales and customer service.
  • All other duties as assigned by the President
Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Experience within corrugated paper packaging or a similar manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • College degree in manufacturing or engineering preferred.
  • Must possess a strong safety, operations and business background.
  • Strong analytical skills with an understanding of P&L, annual budget, forecasts, and monthly financial summaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze manufacturing problems and issues in plant and provide creative solutions.
  • Possess an understanding of, and experience implementing Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Must have proven ability as a strong leader.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of a manufacturing organization.
  • Excellent computer skills, experience with all Microsoft office systems, especially Excel
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and food safety, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DOL and EEO.
  • Ability to mentor, teach and train team and lead by example with strong ethics and values
  • Superior time management skills including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently and the ability to lead an effective and efficient meeting.
  • Excellent employee relations skills including being an active listener, understanding how to appraise personnel, applying both positive and corrective feedback, being able to resolve conflicts either involving the supervisor directly or as a third party, understands and demonstrates positive motivational skills including coaching and delegation techniques.
  • Demonstrated confidence including providing a consistent leadership style with an acceptable level of professional assertiveness.
