Job Description

Position Summary:

The Director of Quality will be responsible to provides Quality-Control operational leadership and guidance for all food safety and related regulatory compliance aspects in the production and shipping of pet food and feed products. Ensures procedures are followed and are continually being met in daily operations. Tools such as auditing, process evaluation, hazard assessment and risk management strategies, will be utilized to achieve business compliance objectives and facilitate continuous improvement. Understands, defines and communicates through the development of standards and models the best practices for the management of food safety, including the good hygienic practices aspects of manufacturing processes and manufacturing equipment.

Key Activities:

  • Provide training for all QA and Food Safety programs to ensure continuous improvement and consistent reinforcement of quality practices throughout the organization
  • Lead audit teams during audits of pet food facilities and co-manufacturers and drive consistency across audit teams
  • Assist with standardization of quality production by observing and identifying areas in need of improvement and implement quality programs to ensure production processes are consistent with established quality and safety standards
  • Be pro-active and ready for all quality and regulatory reviews
  • Effectivelycommunicatefoodsafetyandingredient/productqualityconcernstomanagement
  • Assist in monitoring the plant Pest Control Program and environmental conditions and then report any issues to management on a daily basis
  • Report any non-compliant, equipment, procedural or product issues to management
  • Monitor production records relative to quality assurance and food safety guidelines on a daily basis
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Food Science or a relevant technical field. (i.e. – Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Microbiology or chemistry)
  • Previous pet food plant experience is required with a solid working knowledge of quality assurance, food manufacturing, packaging, and distribution
  • 10 or more years of experience as a quality supervisor and manager
  • Proficient with Implementation of SQF Standards
  • Previous professional training and auditing experience of ISO Standards or GFSI Standards- based food manufacturing facilities
  • Previous food safety management systems training and implementation experience
  • Previous Statistical Process Control (SPC) knowledge, HACCP implementation and training, as well as a solid understanding of the Food Safety Modernization Act(FSMA)
  • Experience with ERP Systems
  • Must be capable of working in a fast paced environment with minimal direct supervision and have strong demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and self-initiative skills and possess a strong work ethic
  • Detail oriented with strong problem resolution abilities and capabilities in leading multiple projects simultaneously
